The CSN EN 12464-1 standard requires 500 lx on the work surface for computer-based office work. For writing, reading, and data processing, we recommend 500-750 lx. Reception areas and corridors 200-300 lx, meeting rooms 500 lx with dimming capability for presentations. The luminance ratio is important - surrounding areas should have at least 1/3 of the task area luminance. Lighting should be uniform with a UGR<19 index to limit screen glare.
Human Centric Lighting (HCL) supports the biorhythm by changing colour temperature throughout the day. In the morning 5000-6500 K for activation, in the afternoon 4000 K neutral, in the evening 2700-3000 K for relaxation. Intensity also changes - higher in the morning (750 lx), standard in the afternoon (500 lx). The system is controlled automatically according to the time of day or manually. Studies confirm a 15% increase in productivity, improved mood, and better sleep quality for employees.
LED panels have many advantages: 50-60% energy savings, 50,000-hour lifespan vs. 15,000 for fluorescent tubes, instant start without flickering, smooth dimming capability, no maintenance (tube and starter replacement), better colour rendering CRI>80, no hazardous mercury, silent operation without buzzing. Modern LED panels achieve an efficiency of up to 150 lm/W. The return on investment when replacing fluorescent tubes is typically 2-3 years.
An open-plan office requires a flexible solution. Basic lighting with LED panels or suspended luminaires provides 300-400 lx. Each workstation is supplemented with task lighting (desk lamps) for individual adjustment. Separate zones (meeting, relaxation) have independent controls. We use direct-indirect lighting (60% down, 40% up) for a pleasant atmosphere. Acoustic LED panels combine illumination with sound absorption.
Integration maximizes savings and comfort. We install daylight sensors that automatically regulate artificial lighting according to the level of natural light. Luminaires near windows are dimmed or switched off first. We aim for a constant illuminance of 500 lx on the work surface by combining both sources. Luminaire rows are oriented parallel to windows. Blinds or screens are controlled automatically to prevent glare. Energy savings from daylight harvesting reach 20-40%.
